Judas and the Black Messiah is an upcoming Biography directed by Shaka King and written Will Berson "Judas and the Black Messiah" A new film a biopic about the assassination of Black Panther Party leader Fred Hampton, is available online. Directed by Shaka King, the film stars Oscar-nominated actor Daniel Kaluuya as Hampton, president of the Black Panther Party and vice president of the national BPP, and Lakeith Stanfield as William O'Neal, an FBI informant whose treason led to Hampton's death. Also in the cast are Jesse Plemons, Dominque Fishback, Ashton Sanders, Algee Smith, Lil Rel Howery, Jermaine Fowler, Martin Sheen, Robert Longstreet, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Dominique Thorne, Caleb Eberhardt and Amari Cheatom. Judas and the Black Messiah is produced by Shaka King, Ryan Coogler and Charles D. King, from a screenplay by King and Will Berson. Judas and the Black Messiah premiered at the recently concluded Sundance Film Festival.
In reconstructing Judas and the Black Messiah a true story, Daniel Kaluuya plays Black Panther chief Fred Hampton, whose actions prompted FBI direct J. Edgar Hoover (Martin Sheen) to dispatch an infiltrator which led to his state-authorized killing. William O'Neal (LaKeith Stanfield) joins the Illinois division of the Black Panther as an informant for the feds and records Hampton's exploits by manipulating both his comrades and his supervisor, Special Agent Roy Mitchell (Jesse Plemons). As Fred Hampton's influence increases across the country, the revolutionary falls in love with militant Deborah Johnson, played by Dominique Fishback. Says Kaluuya, in an interview with EW There have been days when I felt oppressed by the weight of reality. Channeling those ideas, that era and those dynamics deeply touched the cast.
Principal photography commenced on Juny 10, 2019 in Los Angeles, United States and concluded on April 21, 2019. The film is set for release on February 12, 2021.
